DO: Plastic fishing

Journey down the Thames in one of the world’s first recycled plastic punt, made from 99% plastic waste, in Hubbub’s plastic fishing expedition.

Fishing trip with Canary Wharf College

One of London’s most innovative foundations, Hubbub, have made collecting plastic one of the top things to do in London. Okay picking up plastic isn’t that cool, but when you’re doing it on a boat, made out of plastic, helping to support marine life and getting to see London from a whole new perspective from the river - it's pretty awesome.

In the last 30 years, we've seen a dramatic clean up of the Thames which has in return welcomed a flurry of new life. It is now proudly the cleanest river in the world, which flows through a large city, a major feat when we think that over 50 years ago the river was so polluted that it was declared biologically dead.

How bad really is the litter in the Thames?

Every year 300 tonnes of litter is fished from our river. Over 70% of that is being eaten by marine life and birds, and most of that litter is empty food and drinks packages from us. Don't worry, it's not too late to help turn the tide on marine litter. Get fishing!

This is just one of the cool environmental projects that Hubbub has run, you might have even seen some around London already.
