DO: London's unique walking tours

Updated: Dec 11, 2018

Working with homeless, ex-homeless and vulnerably housed Londoners, wind your way through the twisting London boroughs with some of our city experts.

With over 400 touring companies available to show you around London, it is hard to find one that isn’t just a regurgitation of a Wikipedia page. You stand there whilst the Tower of London’s history is dictated in dulcet tones all the while you are becoming increasingly aware of how cold you are, how tired your legs feel and your stomach starting to rumble.

In short, you’ve seen/heard it all before – even if it was on a computer screen. But that’s where Unseen Tours comes in.

Unseen Tours are a non-profit that evolved from the work of The Sock Mob, a homeless organisation that uses the ‘ice breaking power of socks and real conversation’. Giving vulnerable people the opportunity to interact with people who they might not have otherwise inspired Unseen Tours. To this effect, they provide paid work to vulnerably housed people, giving them the platform to showcase their creativity and knowledge of London, whilst showing visitors around the city.

Now, with 8 years of expert touring under their belt they are still using their innovative approach of showing tourists and Londoners alike around some of the most well-known areas of this historic city. As they go, they uncover unknown facts, sights and secrets about these famous places. Priding themselves on using the ‘world’s most street wise guides’ you’ll be shown the sights in a new light, learning and being inspired as you go.

The tours cover five of the most renowned areas in London, including Covent Garden, Brick Lane, London Bridge, Shoreditch and Soho. To book your tours either as a group or an individual, then take a look at their website for more information.
