Now this really is one food waste warrior worth toasting to. But using bread for beer – how good can that really be?
A shocking 1/3 of all food is wasted in the UK every year, that's 15 million tonnes. Just let that sink in for a second. We’re at crisis point and in desperate need of changing our habits towards our consumption of food and food waste.
Now let’s take a look at bread. This staple household buy, is one of the worst perpetrators. We waste almost 900,000 tonnes of bread every year – enough to lift over 26 million people out of hunger.
So the obvious solution? To make beer out of it of course! Toast Ale partner with sandwich factories and bakeries to collect their surplus bread which they then make into beer. It gets better. They also donate 100% of their profits to Feedback, a charity who campaign against our food waste and aim to halve it by 2025.
Oh yes and about the taste. Toast Ale have a tidy collection of accolades claiming great taste, are stocked by breweries around the UK and now the world, so we think the taste must be okay...
