Want to shop more sustainably, but don’t know where to start? You’re in luck, because Know the Origin (KTO) allows you to seamlessly shop for transparent sustainable brands from all over the world, all in one place.
The platform features fairtrade and organic women’s and men’s clothing and accessories, as well as a variety of conscious living products (they have a fantastic sustainable reading list). I’ve personally been eyeing this Lodi modal dress, recently featured in The Telegraph.
But it’s not just the items you can purchase on the KTO platform that make it so special, it’s also the founder herself. Charlotte Instone founded KTO when she was just 21 in response to the tragedies at Rana Plaza garment factory collapse. Four years later, this young entrepreneur not only has her own brand and e-commerce platform, but she is also setting the bar for transparency standards, having developed her own top-of-the-line methods for assessing brand ethics and sustainability. On every product page, you can read about the brand story, ethical standards and traceability above and beyond traditional product description and sizing information.
KTO doesn’t just want to sell you ethical and sustainable products, it also wants to inform you about the sustainability movement, particularly with respect to the fashion sector. For more information, check out the ‘KTO Talks’ tab for information on fairtrade, human trafficking and packaging.
Having met Charlotte in 2017 when she was shortlisted onto a social enterprise accelerator programme, I can tell you firsthand that she is genuine and incredibly hardworking, and I hope you’ll feel as good about supporting her and KTO as I do!
